According to the National Golf Foundation, 48.1 million Americans age six and older participated in golf in some form during 2025. That included 29.1 million people who played on a golf course and another 19 million who participated exclusively through off-course golf such as driving ranges, simulators, and golf entertainment venues.

Rounds played have remained remarkably strong as well. Through the first half of 2026, U.S. golf courses were running just over 4% ahead of the same point in 2025, which was already a record-setting year for rounds played.

For experienced golfers, busy tee sheets and increased activity may not be a surprise.

What may be more interesting is where some of that growth is coming from.

The Golf Audience Is Broader Than It Used to Be

The traditional image of a golfer is changing.

More than 8 million women and girls played golf on a course in 2025, representing 28% of all on-course golfers. Female participation has grown significantly in recent years, and women also represent a larger share of beginners and off-course participants.

Younger adults remain an important part of the game. At the same time, simulators, technology-enabled driving ranges, and entertainment venues have created easier ways for people to experience golf before ever stepping onto a traditional course.

The National Golf Foundation also reports that more than 21 million Americans who did not play on a course in 2025 said they were very interested in doing so.

For many members, the course is still the reason they joined in the first place.

Fitness and wellness have become more important. Tennis remains strong. Pickleball has introduced another highly social racquet sport. Dining has become a larger part of the club experience, and many communities put considerable emphasis on social programming, pools, family activities, and informal places where members can spend time together.

That doesn’t mean golf is becoming secondary.

It means the lifestyle around golf has become more complete.

For couples where one person plays much more than the other, that can matter a lot. The golfer may spend the morning on the course while the other person has an entirely different routine within the same community.

When both enjoy being there, the club becomes much more than a place to play golf.

What This Looks Like in Northern Palm Beach County

This broader golf lifestyle feels very natural in our area.

Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, Tequesta, North Palm Beach, and the surrounding communities offer a wide range of ways to combine golf with everything else people enjoy about living in South Florida.

In Palm Beach Gardens, buyers can choose among numerous established private club communities, each with its own personality and approach to golf, dining, fitness, racquet sports, and social life.

For golfers who prefer more flexibility, the area also offers public golf options. Sandhill Crane Golf Club, for example, is operated by the City of Palm Beach Gardens and is open to the public, giving residents another way to enjoy golf without tying their home purchase to private-club membership.

In Jupiter, golf is often part of a broader coastal lifestyle that may also include boating, fishing, beaches, and waterfront dining.

North Palm Beach offers its own connection between golf and the water. At the same time, the Village of Tequesta provides a smaller residential setting with convenient access to golf, boating, the Loxahatchee River, beaches, and the Jupiter area.

What is interesting is how close many of these choices are to one another.

A buyer can travel only a few miles and find a completely different golf experience.

One community may revolve heavily around the course and clubhouse. Another may offer a more private residential feel. Somewhere else, boating may be almost as important to residents as golf. And for some buyers, living outside a private golf community while playing nearby public or private courses may offer exactly the flexibility they want.

A map or list of amenities does not always show that.

For Serious Golfers, the Golf Still Comes First

The growth of the broader club lifestyle does not change what experienced golfers care about.

For someone who plays three or four times a week, the course itself may still lead the decision.

Today, buyers can expect more from the rest of the community as well.

For another, it might be golf twice a week, boating on other days, dinner in Jupiter, and only occasional club events.

Someone else may want morning fitness, pickleball several times a week, golf on weekends, and an active social calendar throughout the season.

And another buyer may prefer to live outside a club community entirely, keep golf more flexible, and choose where to play based on the day, the season, or the people they are playing with.

Those buyers could look at the same area and reach very different conclusions.

That is why the growth of the golf lifestyle is relevant to real estate.

The decision is increasingly about more than proximity to a good course.

It is about how golf fits into everyday life.

Golf Is Becoming More Social in Different Ways

Golf has always been social, but the ways people connect through the game are expanding.

Traditional foursomes and tournaments remain part of the culture. At the same time, simulators, practice facilities, casual nine-hole play, leagues, racquet sports, fitness classes, and club dining give people more ways to spend time together.

For newer golfers, that can make the sport feel more approachable.

For longtime golfers, it creates more opportunities for spouses, children, grandchildren, and friends to join the experience, even if they don’t share the same level of interest in the game.

That may be one reason the modern golf lifestyle appeals to a wider group of people than it once did.

You don’t necessarily have to build your entire day around golf to enjoy having it close to home.

Golf’s growth nationally is interesting, but here in Northern Palm Beach County the game has been an important part of the lifestyle for a long time.

What has changed is how many ways people now enjoy it.
